Rex Lawson - Yellow Sisi: Slice from Highlife Time, a collection of Nigerian fusion songs. The point at which western rock n roll hits African roots. Soaked in warmth and rhythm (our favourite musical term!).
Clinic - Tomorrow: Bringing their own brand of bluesy rhythmic folk tonight, from their new 10 inch on Domino Records. Watch out for the funky DFA remix on the flip...
Mock And Toof - Digit One: Thick slab from the Digit EP (definate favourite) on RVNG records (track it down! 2 ace punk funk reworks and screenprint sleeve). Throbbing minimal disco beat with horns and a wild eastern chant.
Ice - La Grande Guerre: A loveable angsty slice of twee electro pop from early eighties France.
!!! - Heart Of hearts: BIG punk funk anthem from one of the best live bands we've seen. The thinking mans alternative to Scissor Sisters. But with way way more (talented, authentic and fun) sass, sex and irresistable bass lines.
Steve Reid Ensemble - Lugano: Tastey slice of modern jazz from the legend that is Steve Reid, accompanied by the best in young european jazz talent.
Louie Ramirez - Do It Any Way You Wanna: PURE FILTH. We dig mojo, Soul Jazz serve it up hot and loose, track from New York Latin Hustle, once again, mmm...0
Memphis Black - That's Me Boy: "Look at that girl!...ain't she beautiful...kinda sexy too!" Weird and wonderful groovey organ led banger from deepest darkest Germany, 1969.
Bola Johnson & His Easy Life And His Easy Life Top beats Buroda Mase: More highlife, this recording post Biafran war, when the halls of Nigeria were becomming infiltrated with jazz and funk. So this is where Jazzanova and Scruff get it!
Mar Revolto - Contendas de Sincorá: Warm, woozey folk from the dreamy landscape of 1970s Brazil.
Cutty Ranks - Chop Chop: Quick stepper perfect for the dance. Hands up reggae for those that like it a little agressive.

Los Salvajes - Al Capone: Furious blues punk jam from Spain's premier 60s beat group. Liberating kids across Europe with sound and it still feels fresh.
The Je Nes Sais Quoi - Death Of Them - Good time punk 'n roll from somewhere in Northern Europe. Bought from a European distro, loveley rare screen printed seven perfect for DIY geeks. Who knows if these guys are still playing. Who cares. Four hit EP that sinks into underground rock n roll history...

James Chance & The Contortions - My Infatuation: Keen favourites of mine, The Contortions this time lead us through their troubled minds with a potent mix of woozey dischordant funk and snarling punk.
Kelpe - Shipwreck Glue (Kelpe Extraversion): Psyched out headrush electro that twists and turns and falls into a mess of rhythm.
White Light Circus - The Shot! (Dub Copy): Taking you through the Earth and back, the Circus comes to town and picks you up a myriad of sounds and sights. The beat swirls to back on itself and the synths create their own energy. Perpetual motion and perfect dance food.
Robert Logan - Grinder: Awesome cut from Royal Holloway's own electronic upstart. Presice IDM that swirls with effects, bathes in heavy bass, vibrates with delicate ambience and discordant noise.
Skream - Filth: The title says it all. Relentless wonky sub bass, heavy beats and that freaky Skream atmosphere.
Ini Kamoze - World Ina Music: Glorious dancehall dub newly compiled on Soul Jazz's latest 'Dancehall' double LP.
The Undisputed Truth - Ball Of Confusion: A call to arms, a kaleidoscopic funk collision and a psychedelic soul jam. The lyric sheet reads like a Martin Luther King nightmare. Real music for real people.
De La Soul - Eye Know: Classic organic hip hop jam. Just like it should be. Don't make 'em like they used to.
Raul Seixas - Mosca Na Sopa: True Brazilian folk here from the early seventies. Let the rhythm guide you.
Fuck Buttons - Bright Tomorrow: Good time pop for white noise kids.
Something Wild - Trippin' Out: An experimental psych rocker here from Pebbles Volume 7. An organ leads you in whilst that fuzzed out noise leads you off. 'Come along with me babe, we'll trip on out...'
Bobby Mcgees - Au Saiuvant!:Gloriously shambolic anti folk. Tweecore, Ukebilly, scruffy pop made on anything they can get their hands on. They played our living room last night and filled the air with love, dirty romance and the best dance moves ever.
Phil Alvin & The Sun Ra Arkestra - Someone Stole Gabriel's Horn: Good time swing/jazz here from sometime in the eighties. Don't know much about this track but if horn theft always creates this music, then go forth and pilfer.
Tenor Saw - Pumpkin Belly: Jump up take on the Sleng Teng riddim.
Emperor Machine - Front Man (Version Idjut- Girthus Maxinmus Mix): Dug this old single up on Berwick Street this yesterday on my lunch break and it was all the sustinence i needed after a hard day at the office. It just keeps going and going and takes you with it.
Hot Chip - Over And Over (Maurice Fulton Dub): Relying souly on the big ol' bassline of this modern pop classic, Maurice Fulton whips up a minimal disco explosion. YES!
Lennie De Ice - We Are Ie (Drums Of Death Mix): Played the dubstep mix of this the other week, now Drums of Death give it the fidget treatment. Peak-time banger.
Proxy - Raven: Guilty tech pleasures... Straight up wall of distortion as we all march on into the dawn.

Los Salvajes - Corre, Corre: The most innovative and raw Spanish beat group of the sixties, this cut taken from their 5th EP and it's a straight up banger.
El Guincho - Palmitos Park (Ruby Suns Version): Another week, another tune from the best band on earth right now. Ruby Suns bathe Palmitos Park in pools of mediteranean psyche, splashes of late afternoon sun spent at the bottom of a bottle of rum, watching the sea catch on fire. Well, maybe not, but it's pretty good.
Novos Bianos - Tinindo Trincando: Smooth as Spanish leather, bosa nova rhythms meet with soaring psych guitars.
Al Wilson - The Snake: Slice of Northern Soul found under a layer of dust in a charming little place in Aldershot. By chance, by fate, by needing some big ol' Wigan pier stompers in our life. From a comp called Right Back Where We Started From on Kent records...
The Milkshakes - Brand New Cadillac: From the vaults of Big Beat Records, The Milkshakes step it up with this surfy-Psychobilly rock and roller.

James Chance & The Contortions - Design To Kill: Innovators in the New York No-Wave scene in the late seventies bring their savage mix of punked-up, avant-jazz and funk to Egham's airwaves.
The Click - Kashmeer Brothers Remix: From a Fania remix sampler... Irresistable latin grooves, splashes of funk, a little jazz, totally hot and sweaty.
Aguaturbia - Erotica: Chile's leading psychedelic rock pioneers of the early seventies pushed the boundries of sex and religion throughout their career, this steamy jam is no exception.

Holy Fuck - Safari (Foals Version): Flip of the new Young Turks covers disc. Foals turn in an experiment, laying down their trademark math pop rhythm that runs like a post motorik pulse through a swirl of delayed, spaced out fuzzzzz. Limited release, worth tracking down.
Karl Schiller - High: Sample a nonsensical German political speech, add mammoth amounts of smooth jazz stylings and come out smiling.
Joe Cuba - Joe Cuba's Madness - From New York Latin Hustle! on the faultless Soul Jazz imprint, a compilation of awesome latin/funk/rhythm...
Metro - A pénz: More funk rock from the burgeoning late sixties scene in eastern Europe, keeping a tight hold of that pop sound but scrambling it up for your pleasure.
Brian Auger And The Trinity - Black Cat: Freaked out jazz fusion.
Stu Phillips - Ampersand: A choice soundtrack nugget from Russ Meyer's cult classic Beyond the Valley of the Dolls.
Sun Ra And His Arkestra - D.27: Abstract jazz from Sun Ra and his ensemble of noise makers. Total freedom.
Black Lips - Leroy Faster: Double A-side to their anthemic 'Bad Kids' single earlier this year, Black Lips serve us up a hipster's cautionary tale in their very own jangle pop style.

Boards Of Canada - Dandelion: Quirky skit from a quintissential electronica album, Geodaddi.
Benga - Benga's Off His Head: Crucial dubstep that's been around a little while. Vicious track that is guaranteed to get knees wobbling, ribs cracking, dancefloors splitting under the weight of low end bass. For our man George! And also Matthias, who plays the slot before us.
Errors - Toes: A jolting mathy-electro popper from the scots on Rock Action records.
Nathan Fake - Long Sunny: As the title suggest, cinematic electronica that soars with warmth. Pools of bass, swirling effects, wall of hazey noise. Totally euphoric.
Electric Light Orchestra - One Summer Dream: Dreamy, tripped-out balladry from the legendary prog-pop pioneers.
The Shangri La's - Sophisticated Boom Boom: Classic girl vocal group. Excellent pop tune that swings with sixties swagger. A gem found on late night radio (though not at all obscure), kind of like an epiphany. Pure pop gold.
The Chocolate Watch Band - Sweet Young Thing: Filthy blues psych from West Coast rockers, The Chocolate Watch Band. These guys were part of the huge psychedelic scene between 65 and 67 and have left us a hefty legacy to indulge in.
Talking Heads - Once In A Lifetime: One of the best songs of all time?
Wimple Winch - Atmospheres: True homegrown british hard rock from the late sixties. Close harmonies and lots of soul.
The Rance Allen Group - Lying On The Truth: A clash of upbeat soul, excited funk and slabs of rock n roll. Typical fusion from the 70's, when ideas began to merge and revoloution was committed to tape.
Steve Walker & The Bold - The Train Kept A Rollin': 'Take a trip!' screams Walker at the climax of this early punk reinvention of the old rock 'n' roll standard. After hearing this i think we can see where he's coming from. A true gem.
Hirut Beqele - Temeles: More ethiopian soul and groove
Monks - Blast Off: Avant pop trailblazers The Monks started off playing as American GIs at barracks across Germany in the late fifties. They ended up changing the face of music as we know it.
Fever - Sinden Remix: More from Fania, awesome remix by king of bass, Sinden. All wonky, with an awesome vocal sample.

White Light Circus - Up To Rot: Uh oh, back into that nu-disco territory. If you havent got a hold of DC Records by the neck and squeezed them dry of releases, do it now. Imagine being stuck in a big clock or a one of those an old casio wristwatch, essential freaked out dance music for warped minds and starving feet.
Neoton - Nóra: ...meanwhile back in communist Hungary, the locals are freaking-the-fuck-out to the funky hammond organ noodling and fretboard shredding of Neoton.
Chevy - 83 Functions: Old release on Catskills, from an ep full of funk/jazz/soul edits. Big brass and keys stormer.
The Choir - It's Cold Outside: Heroes of the local scene in Ohio, 1966, The Choir never made it big nationally, but they sure struck gold with this emotive power popper. Perfect soundtrack to this windy autumn evening.
Shellac - The End Of Radio: One for JP. The radio star gone exploded. CAN YOU HEAR ME NOW?

PHEW...

No updates for a while, we've been super busy with all sorts of stuff...

First off, we played Insanity's Robots In Disguise night at the SU, which was really good. Apart from a huge schoolboy blunder upon our part at the start of our set, we had a lot of fun and saw a few dancemoves thrown down. Nice one if you were listening! The night after saw Love To Make Noise roll into town, we DJ'd for an hour and then let Sevgi take on the evening with some excellent wonky electro. Watch out for holloways leading disc spinning lady! Everything went down a storm, Robert Logan was immense, everyone enjoyed the free popcorn. Once again, nice one if you were there! We also got invited to play the first Thursday Sessions open mic night at Tommy's, which we were psyched to be a part of. There was a lot of good quality music on show. It's been a mad start to our second year, but there you go, gotta roll with it!

We've also been out and about watching Mogwai, Shellac, Lightning Bolt, Mr Scruff, Oxes and Lords. Too much sonic goodness!

For a good time on a sunday night, as always, hit Insanity between 10pm-12am. We beem live and direct over Egham and... Beyond!

THANK YOU SPACE EXPERT

We had our first radio show last night. If you tuned in, nice one! If you didnt, hit Insanity next sunday, 10pm-12am! We didnt really know what to expect or what was going to happen, and the sensation of talking on an actual radio station was a very strange one. It's essential talking to yourself while hearing yourself through a pair of headphones, which is mad. But fun. Really fun! The Insanity studio is super cosy, we had a couple of that new 4% Stella, a half packet of mildly stale rich tea and two record boxes to keep us going through to the start of Monday morning. The show revolved around a two hour mix of all our favourite music and a little bit of talking, we played a whole bunch of songs that went from filthy rock n roll to ehtiopian soul to big ol' low end dubstep to harsh doomy noise to pyschedelia to post rock to motown to funk to... You get the picture. We talked about geeky things like record labels and guitarists and did our best to uphold some quality disc jockey one liners. Here's to next sunday!


A big funk/soul/jazz fan plays before us. He's called Matthias and is ace, he plays the two hours before us and we're probably going to turn our end of weekend evening into a four hour dance move marathon, three of us waltzing around the queen anne annexe to giles peterson compilations and obscure hungarian funk rock. Yes!


We're playing 22nd/23rd at Tommy's. Come say hello. Psyched to finally get a chance to play at the union and douse the place in something that isnt cheese pop or RNB. Insanity and Love To Make Noise mid week back to back parties. Should be most excellent!

Thursday 23rd October - Love To Make Noise presents IT CAME FROM EGHAM!!! with Robert Logan, Handhsake, Python Lost and Mucky Little Paw Prints. Its at Tommy's Bar, cheap entry and a good time guaranteed. We're on 8-9pm with RHUL's leading electro lady Sevgi Umur DJing the gaps after.
